Because it's important to us

Hand in hand with nature

We’ve been committed to protecting the climate and environment for many years – so you can enjoy an environmentally friendly holiday at the Family resort Seitenalm!

In unison with nature

Sustainability as a top priority

We, the Arnold family, have been focusing on nature and sustainability for many years. The question of how our business can contribute to improving the environment and everyday life for people has long been close to our hearts.

Because you’re important to us ...

... we assume (social) responsibility!

Our business is here to provide services. We enable our guests to enjoy a relaxing holiday in a positive environment. We offer honest, high quality without any unnecessary luxury. In these fast-moving times, it is particularly important for parents and their children to spend time together. Going on holiday together can strengthen the family bond.

... we set an (environmental) example!

Spend your holiday in an environmentally friendly manner! When you stay in a hotel that has been awarded the Ecolabel, you’ll be doing something good for yourself and the environment without having to go without anything. Hotels that bear the Ecolabel have set themselves the goal of focusing on the environment. Offering seasonal food from regional providers is just as important as handling water and energy in a responsible manner.

Because you’re important to us ...

... we are committed to the common good!

The Economy for the Common Good is an economic model that aims to ensure a good life for everyone on a healthy planet. Under this model, value-oriented companies focus on the common good and are actively committed to it. In 2019, we drew up our first common good balance sheet, as social responsibility, sustainability, democratic co-determination and corporate solidarity are important to us. We were recertified in 2024. You can see our common good balance sheet here. This balance sheet makes our commitment to sustainability measurable.

We use the power of the sun

The first photovoltaic panels were installed on the roof of the Seitenalm in 2010, in both the hotel and the employee building.

The rest of our power comes from pure green energy taken from renewable energy sources. To ensure that our energy consumption is as low as possible, we are also gradually replacing all our lights with LED lamps.

We focus on sustainable mobility

We encourage our guests to travel here by train and, of course, offer a free collection and drop-off service with our hotel shuttle bus.

Guests who travel in an electric car have free access to a covered parking space. And there is, of course, the possibility to charge your car.

We use natural heating

We built an organic wood chip heating system back in 2006, which is used to heat the entire hotel and the residential building for employees.

Wood chips are not only a favourable form of heating compared to fossil fuels, but also a domestic fuel that keeps the added value in the region. The trees that provide the wood chips in our heating system come exclusively from local forests. These trees are reforested annually by the forestry community – creating a cycle that maintains the ecosystem and also saves on expensive and climate-damaging transport routes.

We have our own water

We are particularly careful with this valuable natural resource. Our main priority is to handle water responsibly. That's why we “re-set” our mountain spring in 2018. Our hotel also has Grander revitalised water.

As our drinking water has exceptional quality with a hardness grade of 18, we let our guests know that they can drink our tap water without any concerns. We have also installed water-saving taps in the sinks.

We take care of our own waste

Our motto is “reduce, reuse, recycle”. Our primary focus is on “reduce”. To this end, we are setting a new example and, in the interests of a more conscious approach to nature, will no longer be offering disposable bath slippers. Guests will be able to purchase a high-quality version instead.

Rubbish is carefully separated and disposed of appropriately. We have an efficient infrastructure in place to ensure that both our employees and guests can separate their waste properly.

We hope that you will support us on our journey towards a more conscious and sustainable future.

We build in a high-quality manner

When performing any renovation work in the hotel, we focus on energy-efficient construction with high-quality materials. As part of this process, we install good thermal insulation to minimise heat loss in winter. It goes without saying that we work together with regional providers.

We buy in a conscious manner

“Quality instead of quantity” – by buying regional and seasonal products we not only focus on sustainability but also ensure that we offer the best quality food. Many organic products find their way into our kitchen and restaurants.

Green Hotel

Setting a sign for the future

We have been awarded the Austrian Ecolabel, which recognises the highest quality standards and environmentally friendly and sustainable business practices.

Our hotel carries the environment symbol because we want to live in unison with nature and are therefore mindful of natural resources.

Economy for the common good on the Seitenalm

The Economy for the Common Good is an economic model that aims to place the common good and social justice at the center of economic activities. Companies that act according to the principles of the Economy for the Common Good are guided by values such as social solidarity, ecological sustainability, social justice and democratic co-determination. The aim is to create an economy that is not only geared towards maximizing profits, but also takes into account the well-being of society and the environment. The Economy for the Common Good calls for a fundamental reorientation of the economic system towards a sustainable and ethical way of doing business. It addresses five groups of stakeholders: suppliers, financial resources, employees, customers and the social environment.

Our goals

Short-term goals

  • To become so attractive as an employer that potential employees are put on a waiting list to be considered for a job at Seitenalm
  • Best place to work
  • Renovation of swimming pool and rooms
  • Leading an economically stable company into the future
  • Meeting the changes in tourism as a vacation destination with a unique selling point

Long-term goals

  • To become an employer that is chosen by employees for its sustainable orientation, its transparency towards employees and customers, and its core values of human dignity and respect for the ecological limits of nature.
  • Conducting business for the benefit of the common good and the health of the planet.
  • Building a "Pony School": We want to enable children in the region to take responsibility for a pony through a four-step plan. In the first step, they will learn how to groom and lead the animals. The second step involves lunging the pony. In the third step, the children can ride the pony, meaning they will have a "riding share" in the pony. Finally, in the fourth step, they will take full responsibility for the animal themselves.
  • Maintaining the current business size and investing in quality.
